BEC BUDGET BILLING

Budget Billing allows Members to pay approximately the same amount each month, regardless of actual billing. Budget Billing is a way to levelize monthly electric service payments and avoid the high bill spikes that can sometimes occur during the hottest summer or coldest winter months. BEC offers Budget Billing to all residential rate class Members.

Requirements for Budget Billing:

  • The account must be billed under a residential rate class.
  • The Member must have had active service at the location for the past 12 months.
  • The account must have a good credit history. To achieve a good credit history rating, there must not be more than two delinquencies within the last 12 months and no disconnections for non-payment.
  • Other charges shall be added to the monthly budget amount as applicable per Section XIII – Schedule of Fees.
  • If a Member fails to maintain good credit, the account shall immediately be returned to Standard Billing and not allowed to participate in the Budget Billing plan again until good credit is re-established.
  • The account must be paid in full before converting to Budget Billing.

Calculation of Budget Billing:

  • The Budget Billing amount shall be the average monthly billing over the Member’s previous 12 months, calculated under the current rate schedule.
  • Budget billed accounts shall be reviewed quarterly and adjusted as necessary to prevent a significant overpayment or underpayment by the Member.
