ABOUT BEARTOOTH ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE, INC.

Beartooth Electric Cooperative, Inc. (BEC) is a member-owned, not-for-profit rural electric cooperative proudly serving communities at the base of the Beartooth Mountains in Red Lodge, Montana. Located just 60 miles south of Billings, Red Lodge is a vibrant small town with a rich history dating back to the 1800s—from its early roots as a Native American trading post to its evolution into a premier outdoor recreation destination.

Today, the area is known for world-class skiing, snowmobiling, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, camping, and rafting—along with a strong sense of community and welcoming spirit. The scenic drive along the Beartooth Highway to Cooke City is widely recognized as one of the most breathtaking in the United States. In every season, Red Lodge truly serves as the “Base Camp to the Beartooths.”

BEC provides reliable electric service to Carbon County, portions of Stillwater and Sweet Grass Counties in Montana, and parts of Park County in Wyoming. The cooperative serves more than 5,000 members across approximately 7,000 meters and maintains over 1,700 miles of line.

As a cooperative, BEC is deeply committed to the communities it serves—supporting energy efficiency, local renewable energy initiatives, and beneficial electrification. Our mission is to provide our members with reliable, reasonably priced electricity and related services delivered in a safe and efficient manner.
